Crops are grown in different seasons. India has three different seasons:

Kharif

  • Time Period: June-Sept
  • Crops: Paddy, maize, bajra, moong, cotton, etc
  • Done in: Assam, WB, Odisha, AP, Telangana, TN, Kerala, MH. Coastal
  • Three crops of paddy is grown in Assam, WB and Odisha, known as Aus, Aman and Boro

Rabi

The winter crops

  • Time Period: Oct-April
  • Crops: Wheat, barley, peas, gram, etc.
    • The rainfall helps in more production.
  • Done in: Punjab, Haryana, HP, UK, UP, etc. (NW and North)

Zaid

  • Time Period: Summer months (between Rabi and Kharif)
  • Crops: Cucumber, Watermelon, Muskmelon, etc.
