Definition
A political party is a group of members which contest in an election to enjoy power and based on an ideology. They represent different parts of society.
Components
A party consists of:
- Leaders
- Active Members
- And followers.
Why need political parties?
- Because they are a mechanism to support, justify and oppose the govt.
- They contest elections and enjoy power
- They put up policies and programmes for the people to analysis
- Because without political parties, individual rules will not be able to make promises or put up major policy changes. Responsibility will not be taken seriously in a country level.
- They represent different sectors of society. The rise of political parties is directly linked to the emergence of representative democracies.
- As societies became large and complex, they also needed some agency to gather different views on various issues and to present these to the government.
