Definition
There are two types of federations, namely:
Coming Together
- Independent states come together to form a country.
- States have equal power.
- State and Central Govt. have equal power.
- Example: USA, Switzerland, Australia.
Holding Together
- A large country is divides power in state and central govt.
- States have unequal power
- State and Central Govt. have unequal power (Central is more powerful.)
- Example: India, Spain, Belgium.
